Social Movements, Gender, and Funding Empowerment: An Interview with Jill Irvine


On our December 1 roundtable discussion, Rebecca Cruise joins host Suzette Grillot for World Views' roundtable discussion. Then, Suzette speaks to Jill Irvine, professor of International and Area Studies.

Rebecca Cruise is the Associate Dean of Student Services at the David L. Boren College of International Studies, as well as an Assistant Professor in International and Area Studies. Her research and teaching focuses on international organizations, activism, and global security. She received her BA from the University of Portland and her PhD from OU’s Department of Political Science.

Jill Irvine is a President’s Associates Presidential Professor of International and Area Studies and the Vice Provost for Faculty at the University of Oklahoma. She has also served as the Director of Community Engagement in the Office of the Sr. Vice President and Provost and the founding director of the OU Center for Social Justice. Her research has centered on social movements, political mobilization, and transnational activism with a focus on gender. She has received fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Fulbright Scholar Program, and the International Research and Exchanges Board, among others.
