Engaging the Next Generation: Civics Education and the Future of Democracy


On today’s roundtable discussion, Rebecca Cruise joins Suzette Grillot for this week’s roundtable discussion. Then, Suzette speaks to Scott Warren, CEO of Generation Citizen, a civic engagement education program.

Rebecca Cruise is the Associate Dean of Student Services at the David L. Boren College of International Studies, as well as an Assistant Professor in International and Area Studies. Her research and teaching focuses on international organizations, activism, and global security. She received her BA from the University of Portland and her PhD from OU’s Department of Political Science.

Scott Warren is the CEO of Generation Citizen, an organization he co-founded with the mission of providing civics education to students across the United States. While attending Brown University, he also served as the Student Director of STAND, a national student anti-genocide coalition. Scott has also helped lead campaigns to divest Brown University, the City of Providence, and the State of Rhode Island from companies conducting business in Sudan. He was named an Echoing Green Fellow in 2010 and a Draper Richards Kaplan Fellow in 2012.
